game: mia in the puppets' land

A puzzle game made by Misty Frog Studios, with horror and comedy elements. Help Mia go through an misterious world in search for the source of what put her parents and neighbours hypnosis.

Chosen to be presented at Gamescom LATAM 2025, Mia on the Puppets Land had many positive feedbacks from professionals and the public.

responsabilities

As the animator of the project, I had the job to bring the characters and objects to life. For that, I, together with the studio, took the decision to work with Spine2D mixe with full animation, to bring the best quality for the game. I also animated the initial cutscene.

initial custscene

Made for instant immersion in the game, the initial cutscene was made in a black and white palette, with a short story that contextualizes the game's lore. The color choice for the portel in the end was made to highlight the portal Mia enters, that leads to the game itself.

GAME animations

For the protagonist, Mia, I animated a bunch of animations, with the idea of showing her personality in every animation. For that, I made variations of the idle, played if the player stands too long at the same place, and gave her an acting of fear and braveness in every animation, like a kid would be: she may be scared, but she is brave enough to keep going.

enemies - X9

These are the puppets that delate the player's position to the tamer. They pretend to be sleeping, but if they notice the player, they make it very clear: run, kid.

enemies - The Tamer

As his name tells, he is the tamer of the X9s, a big and strong character that guards the corridors of the game. For him, I made animations thinking of scaring the player, and showing how dangerous he can be.

assets

When making the assets, the studio decided to priorize the ones that were essencial for the storytelling, or could be a cool interaction for the player, and good for the imersion of the game. I animated the portal Mia passes through, a surprise-box and bowling pins.
